About The Artwork
My "day job" is a fashion pattern maker for an Australian fashion house working on contemporary women's fashion brands. This is a dream job for me because I have always loved scissors (strange, I know) so I wanted to show how beautiful they can be. Today we are used to seeing them as a mass produced utility item, but in the past they were traditionally hand crafted works of art in their own right. This drawing features 3 pairs of ornate vintage scissors in a reversible design. The artwork can be hung upside down or on its side in portrait format. The drawing is made by hand using a vintage style "dip pen" and ink, then layers of transparent ink wash are brushed on to make a watercolour painting effect. Perfect gift for someone who loves sewing or hairdressing or has a similar interest in collecting antiques or vintage items.
