Horses were some of the very first subjects that I ever drew as a child. I always wanted to be a cowgirl and live on a ranch and have my own horse! I think my drawing of them actually was my way of living vicariously. When I was in my undergraduate years in college I worked for the National Park Service and tracked wild horses in Big Horn National Recreation Center in Lovell, Wyoming. I was tracking and then drawing and painting them for interpretive signage for the park. Best job ever! Now I draw them simply out of love and admiration. I know them very well and settling into a drawing like this is like being home.
