This image comes from my time travelling in India. I was at the temple of the Dalia Lama when I came to this beautiful window containing hundreds of candles, each representing a blessing. I was drawn back to this image again and again by it's brilliant colours contrasted with the iron cast and stained window, as well as it's significance of simple acts which send forth love and kindness to the kin of the well wishers. It was was drawn while attending an artist residency in Taohuatan, China in 2018. This picture is framed with a black mat and a wide frame which slopes down in towards the picture drawing the viewer into the image in order to create the feeling of looking through a small window into another world. It has a non reflective glass cover. The framed dimensions are 39.5 x 32.5 x 2.5 cm

Patience; a virtue which is lost in a world of instant gratification. Not a naturally patient person Briar is however a perfectionist. Unfortunately one cannot live without the other, so photorealist drawing presented itself as a unique kind of challenge. With each work taking countless hours she had to go against her desire for immediate results and learn to be patient; with herself and her drawing. Patience guides her to make each mark, tiny and precise. Patience compels her to fill in each detail as if it were to be seen, but often goes unnoticed overlooked by the bigger picture. Patience, her counsel, reminds her that all practice is progress. The paradox of this new found patience; she has overcome a need for perfection and has simply fallen in love with the process, not as a means to an end but as a means to creation. Briar’s artwork can be characterised by the brilliant and richly saturated colours which give a luminescence so striking that they come alive before your eyes. Colour and light, integral elements explored throughout her work, are often intertwined with the dynamic qualities inherently found within the movement and stillness of water, along with her intrinsic curiosity for the human psyche and the fundamentals of human nature she endeavours to evoke an emotional response to each artwork and awaken a sense of familiarity. As Briar’s proficiency grows she continues to pursue work that challenges her nature, while portraying a unique perspective of reality.
