ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This work is called "neigende Palmen" which translates to "bowing palm trees". The palm trees are bowing to the viewer and perhaps inviting or hiding a path into the dark behind them. I was researching the Coconut Cult on Papa Neu Guinea in early 1900. Palm trees were the symbol of colonial times, travel, wealth and exotic living. In this work , the are interacting with the viewer, they could be hiding or inviting.

Sylvie Ringer is a Canadian / German visual artist currently based in Hamburg,Germany and Vancouver,Canada. "The context of my work drives from two main forces. A personal, intuitive and visceral experiencing of my immediate surrounding and actual objects, places, legends and historical facts that I choose. Together they form an associative narrative. My works can be seen as soul landscapes, a descriptive scene evokes the subconscious in details that break the idyll." Sylvie Ringer
