Hearth of the North Drawing

This burn meant a lot to me. I have done all the works from raw tree to finished board. I labored to fall the hickory trees and cut them in to rough boards. I planed them and sanded them down by hand before binding them together to make the wonderful surface begging to be created upon. I grew up in the deep country in northern Idaho. Living in a city now is harsh on my senses and this piece brought my longing for home to the surface. To be alone in the forest, hearing the wind whisper through the trees, feel the loamy earth beneath my feet, taste the crisp and cold water from a mountain spring. This piece is a call back to a simpler time. A beckoning for us to return to the wild. It is where my heart has been. My heart is always in the North.
