Broken Beauty Installation

I am a Manchester based artist. I graduated from the University of Salford in 2001 with a BA Honours degree in Visual Arts. In 2005 I received an MA in Contemporary Fine Art from Leeds Metropolitan University. Between 2002 and 2004 I was project co-ordinator and member of the 281 Transient Artists Group. During this period I co-ordinated and curated several exhibitions including the EX007 exhibition at Urban Splash, Castlefield and the Great Northern Warehouse Exhibition which featured over 30 artists. I also co-ordinated and exhibited in an exhibition for the Liverpool Biennial (2004) Independents at the Marriot Hotel. I have been an associate beneficiary of the Artists Professional Development programme at Salford University in 2004. I was selected as a finalist for the Celeste Art Prize in London (May 2006). In 2007 my work was selected for the exhibition Toxic Colour held at the Exit Gallery in Ohio United States od America. I am currently in a touring exhibition The Last Book Project which will be on view at the Aguilar Branch of the New York City Library from February until May 29th 2011. My work has been collected by individuals and public institutions.Within my work I am interested in developing further a contemporary abstract painting practice within a shifting theoretical and cultural climate. The use of hybrid forms and diverse elements in my work alludes to notions of difference, multiplicity and fragmentation. My paintings and installations attempt to break formal rules. I use aspects and items of the everyday in my work and incorporate influences from the domestic landscape for example, fashion, advertising, interior dcor, items which often reveal fragments of encoded histories. My work has an immediate visual impact which invites the viewer to engage in a dialogue with art history and contemporary art practice. My work has been exhibited nationally and has been collected by individuals and public institutions. Looking to the future I am working towards having my work exhibited internationally.
