About The Artwork

Charming The Devil is an installation made by Khalil Berro in the new A1-feeder tunnel in Lenzburg, Switzerland. It consists of two “green“ houses, which Berro calls pink houses. Each of them have a fluorescent, pink, light rod mounted on the gable. They are filled with smoke to distribute the light all around the houses. Berro wanted to create something, that confuses the mind. He created a juxtaposition between the huge space, which is the tunnel, and the small space, which is the greenhouses. The two houses almost seem like a portal into a different world. They seem charming and inviting, in this cold and dangerous environment. You have the urge to walk towards them and go inside. The fact that you can't see the other side of the house, gives us the feeling as if it has a space inside that goes on forever. Smoke floods out of all the cracks and crevices. It wants to get out and flee out of the houses. The smoke enhances the pink light and helps to distribute it all around the installation. "Charming The Devil" is here to give the viewer a feeling of confusion, hesitation, and perplexity.
