About The Artwork

Assemblage sculpture made from different, partly recyclable materials - wood, plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, polystyrene packaging, metal and computer parts, insulating materials and polyurethane foam - varnished and polychrome painted and accented with glitter. Signed, titled and dated "2018 (/)) 2020". Lah consciously chose various recycling materials for his installation in order to draw attention to waste avoidance and the current global waste problems, so that he found the term "Art Recyclage" for the works from this series of works. Lah's intention is to reproduce global issues through a complex symbolic language, which enables diverse, individual interpretations, depending on the respective viewer and his image of the world, his ideals, hopes and visions in the present and future. The earth is shown as a symbol for humanity and life itself, which is attacked by an oversized, spider-like monster, but is snatched from its clutches by a male-female machine being. While the male side with his physical strength pulls the earth to safety on steel chains, the female side is turned towards the animal as a symbol of the protective primeval mother and tries to kill it with metal spears. The figure of the giant evokes associations with the traditional motif of St. George as a knight fighting the dragon. At the same time, the equipment with technological parts also reflects the modern hope of eliminating negative aspects of our existence and making the earth a livable and safer place for future generations. With the sculpture, Lah wants to express that the earth is at a critical crossroads - pandemics, increasing environmental pollution, climate change, contrasts between poverty and wealth, famine, political and military unrest as well as violence cause many people to experience uncertainty and fear; on the other hand there are great advances in medicine, science and technology. Approx. 260 cm x 275 cm x 150 cm. This "Art Recyclage" work of art will be included in the Catalog Raisonné prepared by U. Van Lach. Mixed media assemblage sculpture. Signed, titled and dated "2018 (/) 2020".

Zeljko Lah in his early days was an artist and fashion designer in London during the late 1960-early1970’s, well known for designing Rock and Roll style of clothing and some of his clients included Frank Zappa, Santana, Queen, Deep Purple, Black Sabath,Andy Warhol, Hockney,Bacon Jimmy Hendrix and many others. Some of the shoes and outfits he designed are displayed in Hard Rock cafes and certain Museums.During this period he produced Pop Art artwork and exhibited in group shows in London and Paris. In the 1980’s he became an art dealer specializing in paintings from 1900 -1950’s, but his love of art was never too far and in 2010 he started again, painting, sculpting and designing installations using mostly recycling materials. He calls his sculptures Insulation Art,and has a registred trade mark Art Recyclage. His style is a cross between Abstract Impressionism and Modern Pop Art. Often the painting and sculpture merge into one. He also coined the phrase ‘PopKorny Art’, which has elements of his ‘tongue in cheek’ view of love and the life around us and expresses a symbolistic take on modern life. Zeljko believes that Art should be Fun. His main modus operandi is Art from the Heart, as he follows his natural talent and instinctively works on each project with an open mind and spontaneous improvisation, with the end result often a surprise. The artist lives and workes in several places Belgium,Slovenia,Florida. His Art has been sold at International auctions as shown on Askart.ArtPrice,Google, and also at Miami Basel,Palm Beach Art shows. The highest price for one of his installations was achived at an auction in Germany in May 2021 of apr. $55.000.
