About The Artwork

With their hair, as a symbol of power, women and men, too, from all over the world support the oppressed women's claim for fair and democratic conditions. This collaborative work with Ilse Hirschmann is a solidarity sign for the Egyptian women fighting for their rights in Egypt. The initiator Ilse Hrschmann saw a report in the Austrian newspaper Der Standard about a haircut on Tahrir Square in Cairo as a protest against the maginalization of the role of women in Egypt. Karin Hannak is essentially responsible for the concept of the artwork: Women's portrait photos and hair from all over the world togehter with forms for their names, age, profession and nationality have been collected in transparent envelopes. These "CapilloForms" will be presented in a gigantic net in red color symbolizing activity, power, energy as well as the female - a huge net as a symbol for an impressing women's global network, a "world wide women's web“.
