About The Artwork
I was originally inspired some time ago by the landscape of Cornwall . The quilt was created for a music video to suggest the human form as the landscape . First a large old linen bed sheet was painted with fabric paints to make moorland and fields , then kimono fabric was sewn on . Then a road all round , inspired by The Isle of Arran where I grew up . Wool was felted to form the hedges and hedgerows . A diaphanous blue fabric made the sea . Then it was quilted by hand in quite a free-form way . And lastly 300 pompoms were added for the trees , and some other little additions to look like various animals in the fields . The quilt is currently on loan .
