About The Artwork

After placing other people's thoughts into the classified section of the Yorkshire Post for 2 weeks from the 20th of May 2013 until the 4th of June, I waited for someone to respond through the newspaper office. To reflect this transitory suspense I created an installation with connotations of a waiting room. The room was to be entered singularly, creating a private experience to the individual as well as constructing a queue outside of the room. It was waiting upon waiting upon waiting. The text on the wall hints of my hopes for a response from the reader, the newspapers on the table are the ones with the 'thoughts' within them. They were accessible to the thousands who bought the papers each day and yet who would notice them? It is now the viewer in this momentary space that has the power to notice and engage with the performance that took place. They alone can feel the anticipation of the hope at the same time as having the ability to fulfill it. All potential has been handed over to them whilst I am left only with the longing.

HE Wiseman Lives and works in London HE Wiseman is a visual artist whose work is informed by the principles of Deconstructive theory and the writings of Hélène Cixous and Jacques Derrida. Fluid in form, Wiseman’s pieces shift between text, installation, painting and performance. An underlying need to question, complicate and expose the structures of traditional logic inherent in the frameworks of language, theory and society form the foundations of her practice. HE Wiseman has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, in both solo and group shows. Wiseman’s work has been shortlisted for the Vantage Art Prize (2013) and the Litchfield Prize (2014) as well as appearing in the Evening Standard and the Yorkshire Post. Her written works on the philosophy and theory of art have appeared in publications such as Penumbra, The Debut Series and the £383,911.73 Exhibition Catalogue. Wiseman is a founding member of the VERB curatorial collective who create innovative art exhibitions, publications and events which champion the work of emerging artists.
