About The Artwork
"Papier II", paper cut art by Dana Shek. I am inspired by the beautiful shape of gourd vases and used that as the starting point. From there I designed a pattern similar to crackle glaze found on ceramics. I thought about the still life themes found on these vases and decided to feature butterflies. With the butterfly wings folded back, they create a three dimensional element. My design is then laser cut on white paper and placed on top of a gold paper which adds a colour highlight.

I moved to Hong Kong after graduating from Loughborough University School of Art and Design, UK. I was an art consultant and gallery manager before pursuing a career as a visual artist. When I studied Multi-Media Textile Design it was the process of making which I enjoy the most. Although working in the art industry was an invaluable experience, after nearly a decade, I was at a turning point. In the end, it was time to make art again. Because of my textile art background, I am drawn to colour, texture as well as tactile materials. My work includes textile art, paper art, paper cutting, paper collage, and also digital art.
