About The Artwork
Paper installation by Dana Shek, a Hong Kong based artist. I have an impression of a phoenix garden which gradually takes shape and form as I start to cut paper. The act of paper cutting, for me, has a meditative quality so my way of working tends to be organic. I'll have an idea for the overall composition but each cut is decided at that precise moment. For the final touch, I added paper feathers to create more depth and shadow in the overall artwork. Paper seems to be a very basic material but it is incredibly versatile which is why I love to use it for my paper work.

I moved to Hong Kong after graduating from Loughborough University School of Art and Design, UK. I was an art consultant and gallery manager before pursuing a career as a visual artist. When I studied Multi-Media Textile Design it was the process of making which I enjoy the most. Although working in the art industry was an invaluable experience, after nearly a decade, I was at a turning point. In the end, it was time to make art again. Because of my textile art background, I am drawn to colour, texture as well as tactile materials. My work includes textile art, paper art, paper cutting, paper collage, and also digital art.
