About The Artwork

'Ramshaw I' was inspired by the book The Gates of Janus by Ian Brady, specifically this paragraph... "The common individual craves prohibited sensation minus responsibility and risk. And perhaps the most psychologically intolerable aspect of all, such people resent inner knowledge that they will spend all of their life as timid spectators, never players". I find these words here would connect with any artist or forward thinking person if they didn't know who wrote it. Loss is a phenomena, an instance, something that happens to you. Absence is the consequence. Though it is possible to experience both. Quite ironically in the sense that emptiness pervades the body. Crawls under the skin, fills the lungs and contorts the muscles. All parts of this installation represent quite particular fragments of the Moors Murderers history. Some may be obvious, some not.
