About The Artwork
This small scale sculptural installation is inspired by Victorian peephole constructions and similarly has a strong element of voyeurism. The exterior of the tin presents a scene of women in a utopian ideal; in a garden, full of abundance, innocence and beauty, much like the Garden of Eden. To see the contents hidden inside the tin, the viewer needs to interact with the piece and peer through the holes. Inside, there are mirrors, images; photographs, collage and objects, that create a theatrical space. A hungry lion is out on the prowl, looking to devour women, and to strip them of autonomy. They become mere ‘objects’ There are two viewing holes, one at the front and one at the back at different heights creating difference in perspective. The mirrors create a sense of infinite space.
