About The Artwork

The flowers of evil arise when the paintings of Rosa Galindo and the video art of Manuel Granados are related; the convergence of both has originated an installation in which you have to immerse yourself, an enveloping space as another event of life. The echoes that are produced take us back to Plato's Cavern, to that dark and underground place where relatively safe people live. But it is only in appearance, the reality is that shadows or glimpses of another world are glimpsed. According to Plato, only the philosopher dares to leave the comfort zone and observe what is on the other side of the cave entrance, but the information is confusing and contradictory, generating conflicts in the community. Today we could not say that we live in ignorance. We are immersed in the information age and the new technologies applied to communication. And yet, we do not stop feeling that reality is still veiled in our eyes and incomprehensible to our intellect. This installation is intended to be a wake-up call about the tension that is created in the cave, as it is, at the same time, a refuge from the unknown and a prison of ignorance that it catches. But when we get out of that kind of maternal womb and communicate with the outside, we get an overwhelming amount of information that contains a new distressing tension because we don't know how to manage it. As social beings we need the connection and the flow of knowledge, but there is an urgent need to prepare for valid tools that help filter and defend ourselves against the disproportionate flood of messages. Both Rosa's pictorial works and Manuel's video art, taken separately, are finished pieces with a formal and conceptual realization that, when observed with a slow and deep look, convey their concepts and ideas effectively. They are neat, emotional and conscious representations. However, by arranging them in an anarchic manner and projecting them all in unison in a room of petroleum gray walls, chaos is created amidst the darkness of the cave; the spectator inside the installation is barely able to glimpse incongruous pieces that partially reveal the pieces, in the middle of a sound noise where little is distinguished. There is perceived conflict and disagreement. We are faced directly with the collision caused by chaos due to excessive information, the darkness of ignorance and the flashes we can glimpse of valid knowledge. The works are loaded with ingredients that could expand our emotional and mental knowledge. But accumulation without filter even alienates our perceptual capacity, the senses become saturated and, as art historian Susan Buck Morss says, we are anesthetized from the reality we live, that is, we lose the skills to know, learn or empathize, it makes us uncritical beings with no response alternatives. It is not advisable, then, a slow or meticulous look that the works would require individually, but a distracted look, the one that Benjamin claimed when strolling through the Paris Boulevard of the opulent 20s, in order to be aware of the pitfalls of capitalism, which They tried to seduce and incite consumption. When looking from a distance, one perceives phantasmagoria better, parallel reality. But that is not the current moment; For us it is too late, we are immersed in a virtual corpus without prior notice, we have not been prepared, nor are there valid behavior guidelines.
