Thousand and one visages - Auschwitz 1942-44 Installation

A short film (production: E. Landesmann, S. Parysow, 2019) presenting the installation can be seen on https://vimeo.com/378817328 Across several meters, A thousand and one visages gives us to see the faces of a thousand and one people among the 1 100 000 Auschwitz exterminated victims between 1940 and 1945. Taken from photographs shot before the victims were deported, those were manually printed with acetone on a thousand and one silk pieces of paper. Those portraits are the ones of men and women, who could be our own parents, grand-parents and children, that all look like our own; faces that remind us of a relative or a friend. Although these are a very small part of the victims and their lives, these portraits allow access to a gross historical data, who relates to a conscious process of dehumanisation. This installation received a grant from the Fondation Auschwitz - ASBL Mémoire d'Auschwitz (2018-2020).
