About The Artwork

I think that I can call my Homeland three places at the same time: sunny Moldova, where i was born, grey northern port city of St. Petersburg, where I moved at the age of 7, and Georgia, which revived the artist in me and inspired me to start creating art again! These highly contrasting locations have informed mine aesthetic which deals strongly with dualities. My studies of botanical features and landscapes of Georgia are indicative of my sensitive use of color as a means to communicate the hues of light found at southern latitudes. "Banana leaves" – is a reflection of all the cultures that have mixed in me, my love for color, delicate shades and nature. I drew it when I saw a banana in the courtyard of the old city, in Tbilisi, on Lermontov Street. Its hot leaves touched my heart, and I touched the paper... This painting is a limited edition printed by hand on the highest quality cotton art paper with my original signature.

Hello! My name is Katya Shchukina, I currently work as a freelance illustrator and visual artist. I am a human. I am an artist. Art is always about a sharpened truth seen through the subjective eye of the artist. I graduated from the Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia and learned the hard way that classical education gives you the right skills, but it also kills your creativite identity. I started to draw again five years later, when I moved to Georgia and aligned myself with the nature around. I learned from Georgians and witnessed their close relationship with the surrounded essence, which inspired me to have a greater connection with nature. Over the last four years, I’ve gained much experience as a scarf print designer for the Soyka brand. I established my own small brand of hand crafted plant print wallpapers, and created dozens of murals for restaurants and hotels. My prints and arts are for sale on Instagram and I've had international exhibitions, as well as publications in art magazines. Human beings resemble uprooted nomands: eternal wanderers escaping from the world, and from themselves. But now I know – the power is all around us, in every vein of the leaves, in every straw of the field. We just need to stop and make ourselves look deeper at it. In my childhood, my father taught me to love nature. With age I lost this feeling, but have now gained it back. I feel the freedom and have a strong desire for others to feel it, expressed through my art.
