Curved in Gold 2 Artwork

This piece is one of two works of gold leaf on tea bags. The pattern is inspired by wrought iron railings around a church and reflects the metallic of the railings and the interior of the church. The effect is reminiscent of icon paintings and rich gold artefacts inside the church. The tea bags were dyed and gold leaf applied using a stencil. This created a strong contrast with the background. This was further defined by embroidery, using a whipped running stitch. The pattern was deliberately distorted slightly by tracing different lines of the pattern with the embroidery. This demands more movement of the eye. Tea bags are extremely versatile and can withstand many processes. The finished texture resembles fabric, or high quality hand-made paper. The work is unfinished to allow for personal preference of mount, frame and size.
