About The Artwork

Anastasia created this object for the project “Caucasian Atlantis”. As part of the project, the artists turned to the mainstream body of research on postcolonial theory, as well as theories and practices of speculative realism engaged in artistic research The final object is a painting made in watercolor and framed in the shape of oak roots. Oak is especially revered by the Circassians and is considered a symbol of power, nobility, longevity and endurance The object tells about the deep connection of the Adyghe people with their native land. The main emphasis in the picture is a narrow strip almost in the middle of the sheet, with a traditional ornament growing through it, whose roots stretch down to past generations and up to future ones. In the distance we see majestic mountains that, like thousands of years ago, rise to the skies
