About The Artwork

In 2014, shortly after this was made, I wrote this comment: "The dancers in the background were inspired by the Spring Finale Show hosted by House of Shapes, Stockholm just a couple of weeks ago. [It's a fitness and dancing school.] There were mostly groups performing from this institute, very few solos. They had kids, dancing a little but delightfully out of synch. The more mature ensembles showed due personality among their ranks -- it was the teenagers' groups that danced the really eerie parts: They looked very impressive, but the perfect collectivity of their movements made many of those groups feel like relentlessly perfect dancing machines, their members marionettes of sorts. I wanted to pull a few strings, see what happened..." The work is fully digital save for the white outlines (look closely!) that are inverted scanned pencil drawings. I wanted to convey the feeling of darkness, mystery and limelight -- or so I think. Digital colours with the endless choice of hues (perfect for prints) does well for depth (and those eerily straight puppet strings) but white pencil added the life and organic forms necessary for this composition.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Once in a while I actually do perfectly normal paintings -- poppies, still life, or why not beautiful Lake Mälaren here in Stockholm, Sweden. But mostly, I find this tumbling world so bewildering that I have to paint something equally juxtaposed, often with dark and wry humour. The few oils I do lovingly slowly, painstakingly careful as an archaeological excavation of the subconscious. Then there's all my intricate "inquarelles", an ink-and-aqua tech that I developed for speed in my days as a commercial artist, and now there's digital ramblings too. But fast or slow, my works can only be finished by you, with your feelings and interpretations. You are an artwork too.
