Ismayil Atmaca

About the Artist

Ismayil Atmaca

Canada

Ismayil Atmaca is a Toronto-based street photographer and visual artist redefining photography through experimental approaches. His work blends black-and-white street photography with unconventional presentations, bridging tradition and innovation. He is represented by Petroff Gallery, Toronto.
Central to his practice is Phucktography, a concept that pushes photography beyond the image through mixed media and hands-on physical manipulation. His Glitch Series breaks down traditional photographic form by combining archival prints with structured wooden elements, creating fragmented, sculptural compositions. Building on this exploration, Atmaca developed Concrete Visions IIID Series, where photography gains architectural weight and permanence through solid materials.
In later works, he incorporates burned paper, charcoal, and pastel, merging photography with raw, tactile processes. This evolving practice dissolves the boundary between image and object, emphasizing physical presence as much as visual impact.

I.Atmaca has exhibited at Artist Project - Toronto, The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and New York City, and held a solo exhibition at Assembly Hall Gallery by the City of Toronto. His upcoming showcase, The Artist Project 2026, continues his mission to challenge how photography is experienced beyond the frame.
