Night Scene with Caged Bird in Tree Artwork

This picture is a scene from a music video for a song called Diamond in the Heart which features a nightingale . The project began with a glove decorated to appear like a bird . I wanted to suggest the mechanical bird in the Hans Christian Anderson story " The Nightingale " . The cage and the tree costume grew around the bird glove puppet . The finished costume including the branches is around 15ft tall . The tree trunk is made with velvets , silks and lace . Lichens are represented by lace dipped in paint . The branches are made with florists twigs wrapped in silk ribbon and the leaves , painted and decorated , as are the flowers . These form a headpiece as the branches are inserted into a base covered in velvet . The video backdrops are paper with watercolour , and felt tip pen . I photographed the costume and puppet in natural light outside , then Photoshopped them into the painted " scenery " . The tree and bird glove are currently unavailable due to filming commitments .
