The artwork titled 'ThatGirl!' serves as an emblem of empowerment and resilience, a tribute to every woman who's embraced her turn to shine and those still on the path to that realization. It's a visual saga capturing triumph and self-discovery. This sculpture embodies the artist's own journey and victories over challenges, symbolizing a narrative of transformation from struggle to self-assurance. Each texture and curve is a testament to overcoming adversity—rising above discrimination, assault, and societal pressures. It represents a metamorphosis into confidence, much like Kintsugi, where breaks are mended with gold, signifying strength in healing. This piece is not just a statement of art but a declaration of female empowerment, resilience, and the audacity to live authentically and victoriously.

Canada
Bernice U. originally from Nigeria and now residing in London, Canada, is a self-taught contemporary artist who has always harboured a strong creative spirit. Born with an inclination for art, she made do with everyday materials to express herself, crafting sculptures from wet mud and sewing clothes for her dolls, even composing music. After moving to Canada, Bernice found new inspiration in her culture shift and her experiences as a Black woman outside familiar surroundings. Her art reflects the 'curves' of life's emotional landscape—joy, growth, and struggle—mirrored in nature, human personalities, and relationships. These themes are woven through her work, which serves as a form of expression for her thoughts and feelings as a black immigrant woman. Through her creations, she aims to connect with others, share her experiences, and foster understanding and empathy, using her art to communicate what words cannot.
