The silver surface of a frozen lake reflects the winter's sky.A woman in heavy dress stands alone followed by an untouchable ,invisible angel. The work depicts the independence of loneliness ,which is sometimes inescapable. Therefore expected ,and although cold, may also be followed by a sense of tranquility and calm. This is a mosaic created directly on the wet plaster like the ancient artists were is a very complicated and long process with expensive materials gathered from many places like marbles from Greece and Italy and smalti colored and gold from Venice (a special opaque glass made only for mosaics with recipes from the Roman and Byzantine times) The frozen lake is created with white gold smalti ..Big pieces of marble are cut in smaller by a special cutter used by hand and then I cut with a nipper each one cube , tessera ,on the exact size needed to construct each part of my composition The time of creating a mosaic is countless as even to gather the needed materials takes time as they are not found in specialized shops like that for painting ,engraving

I am a Belgian-Greek artist born in Athens, Greece. I studied painting, art history as well as mosaic at the University of Fine Arts in Athens. Shortly after the end of my studies, I returned to the same University but this time to teach.II started my career with 2 solo exhibitions at the Zygos gallery in Athens and my art has aroused the interest of a variety of collectors and museums, such as the National Greek Gallery and the Vorres Museum, that have added my works to their collections. In 1991 a series of solo exhibitions, organized, in museums in Tokyo and Osaka , by the renowned Japanese publishing group the " Yomuri Shimbun"in collaboration with the Japanese department of cultural affairs. Having a strong cultural heritage the first period of my career was mainly influenced and inspired by my homeland .In 1995 I decided to leave Greece and I found myself in Brussels a city with multicultural character and from there I have been artistically active in many countries by having solo exhibitions as well as working on private and public commissions in Belgium, Greece,Germany, France,Russia, the Netherlands, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. In 2008, I held a solo exhibition at the Royal Museum of Art and History at the Cinquantenaire in Brussels, .In the same year, my work"crown" was installed in the Vatican next to the Sarcophagus of His Holiness The pope John Paul II From 2009 till 2013 I lived between Brussels and Moscow, at the invitation of a Russian collector ,where I participated in art projects and exhibitions. In 2012, I participated in the Moscow Biennial with my work"Reliquarium", a mixed media installation. From 2013till present I have been working on commissioned by collectors works like the decoration of an old cycladic Church with mosaic icons. At the same time I am creating and exploring new forms of self expression that would help me to bring out all my questions and visions on subjects such as politics, the arts, social classification, the meeting and mixing of cultures, gender, the past and the present eras.Since2017 I have been working in collaboration with the French photographer Axel Leotard on a series of projects named Π+A. The first part titled "Souvenir du future" has been published June 2021 in a limited edition book by The french editions Corridor Elephant.
