Threads of Survival: Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat Artwork

The loss of so many animals during the drought and 2020 fires that surrounded our place was deeply effecting. I began making smaller artworks inspired by the both the loss and resilience survival of our native species. My extensive experience as a sculptor can be observed in the new collection of highly contemporary mixed media wall pieces. The viewer is alerted to the vulnerable species subject matter through a bold and bright laser cut metal composition, professionally painted with high grade automotive enamel in a contrasting saturated monochromatic colour scheme that is intoxicatingly smooth and overlaid with a transparent luminous acrylic perspex that creates an animal shadow. In combination, the eye catching graphic qualities and unusual material selection delivers a unique and highly desirable collection of mixed media wall panels that will make vulnerable species an obvious talking point. As such, the very rare and critically endangered Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat inhabits an extremely small habitat range in the Epping Forest National Park in Queensland that has rendered it vulnerable to habitat loss caused by ongoing threats of climate change.
