About The Artwork

Two of Three Cups is informed by the archaeological finds in Southern Britain of two similarly unorthodox gold cups three hundred miles apart. The style and method of their making is fascinating and mysterious. The first of the two cups was found in Rillaton Barrow, Cornwall during the 1800's the second was found at Ringlemere Barrow in 2001, damaged by a plough creating an exceptionally sculptural metaphor for our times. I have focused on the shape and style of these beautiful objects to isolate them and re represent as primary important objects. I am publishing these as limited giclee prints for the richness of the digital colours and the modernity in their execution, they remain totally valid and important articulations of human existence. Contemplative and reassuring. Created in c. 1700 BC they are classed as Bronze age and posit Mycenaean trade or ritual sharing.
