Tryptic "Vanishing Mutualism" was the Lorenzo Il Magnifico Prize winner at the XI Florence Biennale in Italy in 2017. For the Biennale, the artist created Vanishing Mutualism, mixed media tryptic using LED lighting, glass and photo collage composed of selfies with friends and family, his paintings, and the Nevada landscape captured in recent years. The three frames, represent at first an abundant and balanced ecosystem, as the imagery suggests harmony between the human interactions and the environment. The second picture shows a joyous composition, but the imagery is flattening into a monochromatic background. A transformation has started. The last piece reveals a barren land as the scene propose gases in a dissipating atmosphere. The characters depicted are maintaining the same space in all three frames - a stubborn position as the place in which they inhabit “happily” has grown unrecognizable.

“In Decker’s multi-layered acrylics on canvas, vivid colors meld with gestural, organic and hard geometric forms inspired by the landscapes of the Sierra Nevadas – all captured under tiny glass squares. Any viewer who chooses to engage the work by moving slowly side to side will inevitably experience the intriguing optical illusions created by the light-bending glass.” “Harnessing Michael Eugene Chevreul’s classic color concept of simultaneous contrast, Decker teases structure out of pure chroma by placing vibrant complementary hues close together creating palpable motion that changes the way we perceive them.” -Kathleen Vanesian, art critic Brazilian-born, Marcio studied painting and design and found his passion for abstraction, architecture, and the creative process during his schooling that continued at Bogota. In the early 2000s, his artistic journey brought him to Lake Tahoe where he currently resides, painting and directing an interior design firm. Decker earned his MFA at the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 2016.
