TOM is a writer and photographer born in Germany but living in Beirut (Lebanon). He merges poetry and visual art – particularly photo manipulation – to generate a unique and often experimental blend of visualized lyrics. His work provides the audience with a completely new experience of receiving poetry and photography. His writings are predominantly focused on capturing emotions, feelings and the paradox and contradictive elements in human nature. Equally, his art deals with other topics, such as transience, the act of writing itself, the imperfection of language as well the limitations of art, which is often perceived as static instead of an endless dynamic process. The metaphoric often cryptic language imitates the work of a painter, replacing colours and forms with words. As such, the poems and manipulated photos build a symbiotic and dynamic relationship that opens to the audience a plenty of ways for contemplation, interpretation and adaptation to one’s own personal experiences.
