About The Artwork
After the name of Rembrandt's mother and daughter, the title of this work is "Cornelia". It shows a woman in a dark room. She can be our mother, wife or daughter. What does she stand for? What memory does this trigger in ourselves? Is it a happy or sad emotion? It is certain that the interplay of light and dark "does something to you". Without being distracted by color or too much shape, the vagueness of the image and the sharpness in dark and light contrast leave an impression that will be different for everyone. My work is about memories. The moment depicted carries with it the layers of history. The NOW does not exist without a history, consciously or unconsciously. The transfer of experiences and emotions between generations is something that intrigues me.
