About The Artwork

art piece to buy THE EVERGREEN OF SOCRATES' HUSH-HUSH (a few words from the artist) (I) > This artwork is meant to speak about LIFE and DEATH. (II) > Deliberately using the ROMANIAN language, in the middle of an ocean of worldwide English speakers, is meant to make everybody think again about DIVERSITY. > Languages are like PLANTS. The fact that most leaves look like TONGUES points towards one of the intended meanings of the metaphor. > It is wonderful that besides English, there are so many other LIVING, beautiful, MOTHER TONGUES in this world. They should be actively nourished and freed to grow. > In a world where people are getting closer and closer together, giving in to the temptation of taking the easy path of using only one language, the one most likely understood by everybody, is making our planet poorer. (III) > The text is a two-line little POEM that was specially made for this artwork. An approximate translation of it would be: "GREEN LEAF, NOW JUST A LEAF OF PAPER/ HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ALIVE?" > There is a subtle, probably untranslatable, PLAY ON WORDS in the Romanian text which emphasizes even further the awkward relationship between PAPER and PLANTS ... and DEATH which sets them apart. . (IV) > As a child, long before learning about FRACTALS, I was fascinated by the fact that LEAVES look so much like TREES. > My leaf made of letters looks a lot like a fir tree EVERGREEN. > Romania (former Dacia), whose secret teachings were revered and protected (till his fully accepted, Zalmoxian style, death) by Socrates himself, still keeps alive in its immemorial customs and rituals the ancestral pre-Christian symbol of the EVERGREEN (the never-losing leaves, always pointing towards heavens tree). > Unlike all strictly intellectual texts, spiritual teachings are LIVING organisms. Very much like PLANTS. they grow from a ROOT, they develop BRANCHES, they are nurtured by LEAVES and now and then they explode in beautiful FLOWERS. > As soon as they are written down as text on PAPER, these spiritual teachings become scriptures, and they are destined to DIE; from that moment on, if left by themselves, they are good only for reference. > This is because, once they are DEAD, without anybody knowledgeable through direct experience by their side, these texts become subject to arbitrary interpretations, which can generate only confusion, debates, uncertainty, all the way up to foolishness ... never authentic guidance. (V) > Of course, my artwork is also meant to encourage us all to find permanent solutions to our terrible planetary problems related to deforestation, unsustainable agriculture, etc. (VI) > It also intends to keep ALIVE an artistic genre practiced by Guillaume Apollinaire (alongside many others before and after him): the CALLIGRAMMES. ======================================================================================= WHY BUY THIS ARTWORK > Because it has the gentle power to inspire love and consideration for PLANTS, LANGUAGES, SPIRITUAL TEACHINGS ... while they are still expressions of the essence of LIFE itself. ======================================================================================= This 3-LIMITED EDITION > The ORIGINAL, signed artwork is printed on exquisite 285 gsm HAHNEMÜHLE PEARL resin-coated Giclée Fine Art paper, in an EXTRA LARGE 40'' x 40'' (1016 mm x 1016 mm) format. > The artwork is shipped in a carefully designed ART PROTECTIVE package. > The ARTWORK is numbered and signed on the back. and each print is accompanied by its "CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY". ======================================================================================= The artwork, the image, and all forms of included or associated text are copyrighted © 2020+ Bogdan ANDA (R) Ref. # 7195270620S035

• Born in Transylvania, Romania, I currently live and work in Leicester, the UK. =============================== ◙ I started to be interested in art only after I accidentally met a group of "mystic", "uneducated" people, in Benares / India, more than 30 years ago. ◙ One important conclusion that I draw from their teachings was that art can be a privileged spiritual path, for both artists and art lovers. ===============================
