Locket lost in the wet grass In spite of the boisterous party the evening before now it was 3 in the morning. The stragglers still left behind had stayed on with the excuse “it’s raining too heavily to make that last decisive dash across the grass lawn to the waiting car.” And now hopping between the rain puddles everybody ran across the wet lawn to reach their waiting cars. Me too, I was there among them the last of those stragglers rushing to go home. It was then that I spotted it in the flickering light from my flash lamp. The heavy feet of the person in front of me had just missed it by a few inches. Almost hidden by the bending blades of the wet glass and I believe it was the drops of water flashing in the torch light that shone like little stars that had drawn my attention to it. The locket had obviously belonged to one of the guests but that was a mystery I left for my hosts to try to figure out.
