About The Artwork
Purgatory is based on the works of photographer Joel- Peter Witkins. He incorporates images from classic oil paintings and combines it with his own unappealing imagery often clustered with anatomical influences. I dabbled in photography and attempted to create a piece with similarities in terms of composition. The image depicts a cluster of bodies in the stage of purgatory, waiting by the doors of heaven to be cleansed and accepted into the after life. The piece is framed and includes hanging hardware.

Aswathy has worked extensively with Visual Arts in the IB Diploma program. Throughout the past three years, she has presented her artworks in five exhibitions, three of which were organized by Maisha studio. She has completed an animation and sculpture course in the University of Pennsylvania in 2016. She has also received training in western classical music and mixed martial arts. She has an interest in storytelling, poetry and literature and is set on pursuing her BFA in animation at the Rhode Island School of Design.
