You could say the stair is the birth of the scaffold. This particular stair lived for about a year behind the opera house as it was being demolitioned and rebuilt. One day it disappeared – or perhaps it gave birth to a latticework of stairs that reached to the sky, and perhaps someone is singing up there.
The scaffold series is created from mixed media explorations of construction sites and the abstract beauty of architectural structures. "The Fifth Step" is a limited edition archival print created from a process that blends my original photography, mixed media, and digital alchemy. This print is not a reproduction of a painting, but a contemporary print in which the print itself is the only form in which the artwork exists.
The finished piece is meticulously proofed and printed on German Etching, using archival pigment inks rated to last for 100 years or more. The prints come with a certificate of authenticity verifying the edition number and the edition size. *This particular orange is a little tricky to display accurately onscreen. On German Etching it becomes a subtle gun metal gray with burnt orange, slightly less vivid the what the screen may display.
These prints are traditionally numbered and signed in light pencil with the number on the left and the signature on the right, just below the image. They are intended to be matted with an approximately 1/2 inch space all around to reveal the signature, but can be cropped to the edge of the image if desired. Prints are sold unframed.
