About The Artwork

FRIDA 6th Jul 1907 - 13 Jul 1954 I chose the iconic Mexican Artist Frida Kahlo as the third subject in my limited art series --- "X_Faces", for so many reasons. Beauty, poise, resilience, her iconic expressionism… I could go on. She is particularly known for using her art to challenge ideas on class, race, sexism and postcolonialism, and in her later life, bed-ridden and in great pain from exacrcebated lifelong health issues, never stopped painting, even in bed! This is one of my digital art series paintings done on a Microsoft Surface Pro with a Surface Pen... one of my unique styles and media challenging what the modern art world generally considers 'real art'! Paulie is a London-based British-Nigerian, self-taught artist specialising in the study of human emotion in portraiture & figurative expression and symbolism in art. He has been making art since he was about 6 years old... & then took a long 14 year break from it at the age of 13. For the last 7 years since his artistic rejuvenation, he has been (and still is) particularly fascinated in the power and inscrutability of human inexpression. He paints captivating portraits of people, and carefully selects subjects that leave the interpretation of the thoughts, state of mind, & expression of the subjects open to the interpretation of the observer. He paints in several media and has done a lot of art in digital media (with a Microsoft Surface pen), as well as painting and sketching in more traditional media -- charcoal, graphite, and acrylic paints in a wide-ranging and varied set of expressive styles. Artist quote: "I'm excited to show you the beauty I see! • Art isn't what you see; Art is what you make others see!"
