This is the fifth in a series of ink paintings sized 73 x 47 cm on thick aquarelle paper. These paintings are paradigmical, in the sense that their premises and composition depends to a large degree upon decisions made by reference to a series of digits of the number pi in hexadecimal formulations. Each painting is made up of 12 stripes of dilluted india ink, painted in various directions across the image area. In this series the direction of each stripe and its location are determined by pi. The ink is mixed with water to make each layer transparent, thus making the resulting image visibly multilayered as the ink builds up.
