About The Artwork

This is a captivating and completely hand-made reinterpretation of the iconic masterpiece the "Mona Lisa", made with acrylic on wood, previously prepared. This interpretation is a testament to the enduring fascination that the enigmatic smile of the Mona Lisa continues to evoke, even in this experimental evolution on the rich canvas of wood. The main impulse behind this painting comes from the inner necessity of experimenting and going further, regarding visual limits. As a visual artist, designer and illustrator I've always had a strong interest on how images are displayed and composed on new digital environments, in other words I've always been fascinated about how computers can create such beautiful images in a such easy manner. On this particular painting I've applied the concept of pixel composition, but instead of using millions of them on canvas I had to reduce them and see what happened. Eventually you can see the final result of this beautiful experiment. In the end, and after around 150 hours of hard, painful, not always certain, and meticulous labour, 1488 pixels, every of them measured nearly an inch, and 68 different colour tones were used to composed the final version of the iconic masterpiece (you can see the process of creation on the shared images).
