About The Artwork

"3 am" is a painting on a wood board, showing a woman, head and upper body, without clothing, the woman in a reflective mood or state, conveying a stillness or a state of tiredness or deep thinking, how someone might feel in the middle up the night, waking up, perhaps awakened by a dream or some other incident. The painting is made with acrylic paint. It is ready for display. It has two small metal arrangements on the backside. The sides are painted in the same palette.

In a multidimensional world, art brings visibility to different viewpoints. As an artist with a minority background, I will present artistic expressions from the viewpoint of the Kveni people in the north of Norway. The Kvens as a people belongs to the cap of north, the kvens was originally situated in the north of Finland and Sweden, in Tornedalen and Bottenviken, and goes far back in our history, Many kvens lived in the north of Norway, and became a minority, with a different language and culture. The Kveni people experienced Norwegianizing in modern time, suppression from the government. Very few were to inherit their culture in modern time because of the suppression. I will try to understand what it means for a human being to loose identity and culture this way. I will also try to understand more deeply the historical roots of the Kveni people, like my grandmother, the last person in my line, to speak the Kveni language. Thematically, works are found within a conceptual tradition, or as representations of the stories of the Kveni people and their historical landscapes. This page will change as I start to bring forward new works, in line with the artistic statement.
