Driving at night: just one of my favorite things to do. Pressing your forehead up against the cold car window, the right music on the radio, craning your neck to see slices of city life and everything everywhere shiny, slick, dark, mysterious, full of the potential for adventure. Acrylic on 5 inch by 5 inch (5”x5”) wood panel (birch surface, pine cradle) Ready to hang, no hardware required. Or you can simply set it down - this piece stands on its own, no need to prop it up. Work is signed and dated on the back. About the Color Story Series This series of “Color Story” paintings started after I decided to dip my toe back into the analog world of art making. It had been a while: for many years I hadn’t felt like I had a physical art medium that felt like “home.” On a whim, before I could overthink it, I went and picked up a few panels and some more tubes of Golden acrylics. This style is what emerged: a blend of techniques I’ve used digitally (there are not unlike working with real-world “pixels” of color) and new stories and ideas that can only be expressed in analog (wonkiness, texture, brushstrokes you can feel, etc..) In these pieces, I’m capturing moments or ideas or fleeting feelings with color. They serve as little postcards that pack in more than/beyond what I could say with words. I hope you enjoy them!

I’m Jess, an artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. My work is about the way that beautiful images can disrupt and change our habitual ways of thinking and looking — and ultimately change us. My work is very intuitive. It’s informed and inspired by color sensation, minimalism, and experiential “light and space” art movements. I work on each image until I feel everything click into place: that feeling of “rightness” tells me the work is done. I work in series — like chapters in a book or verses in a song. Each one feels like it’s part of a whole that’s always growing and surprising me. My hope is that each piece serves as an invitation, a portal, a totem: a way of getting more deeply attuned to who you are and who you can become. I create my work digitally on a touchscreen with my fingers. The digital techniques I've been developing for a few years are a hybrid of painting, screenprinting and collage. I then print the images using pigment ink on thick,100% cotton fine art paper. Each of my prints is an original work, not a reproduction. The completed prints are completely archival. I’m proud to say my work is up on the walls of collectors in New York, L.A., London, Paris and everywhere in between. Hope you enjoy your time here — and please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to connect!
