ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Part of an ongoing series exploring the unintentional(?) performance art of Colonel Sanders in a formal painting approach. This series is heavily influenced by abstract expressionists, hard edge painters, and many post 1960s approaches. In this particular piece, I started with a 1990s era Colonel logo and obscured/obfuscated from there. I use the Colonel more as a figurative starting point to then push the other elements of painting I need to explore. Similar to how Pollock or Siqueros often started with a representational/figurative drip as an under-painting. The color palette reflects the KFC colors that have used over the years (white, black, red and blue), with the addition of the colored sharpies, which I will push more in 2017.
