The history of art is inextricably linked with the personage of the Art Collector. All that we now have in the museums, all those masterpieces of the past were ordered, collected and preserved by the Art Collectors. So, who are these Art Collectors? Historically, these were the people who have held influence and power. We can see the tribal leader as the first Art Collector who freed the Artist from the hunting duties instead allowing him to paint on cave walls and rocks. The time gives birth to the Artist while the Artist represents the time in which he lives. The Art Collector gathered and stored Masterpieces and passed them on to the future generations. The particular tastes and whims of the Art Collector were central in determining which artists would go down to the history of art and which ones were destined to obscurity. The progress gathered speed and the market laws overtook the Art World. Today, the Art Collector acts as the Investor, hopeful that his bid will "play out" in his favour and that his investments will end up paying off quickly. Today, the Collector is the Investor, and the artistic value of a piece of art is determined by its auction price rather than its merits. The auction price, in turn, depends on marketing and publicity as well as all kinds of tricks that are very distant from the creative process proper. Just like on stock exchanges, the Artist's "price" rises and falls, with the art collections growing or dropping in value as a result. Of all the artists of the twentieth century listed in the Christie's and Sotheby's catalogues of the 25 years past, the works of fewer than half will be found at major auctions today. The rest are of little interest to anyone anymore. The symbol of this time – "THE GOLDEN MASTERPIECE" (designer ingot, 12 kilo) - serves as the minimum guaranteed auction price without the Artists' genius taken into consideration. During the pre-auction show, the Artist will estimate the minimum guaranteed auction price of "THE GOLDEN MASTERPIECE" based on the current conversion rate of gold and will reflect on its actual artistic value.
