This painting was a pleasure to paint. It came together well. The background is meant to be stone-like like slate or the tomb where Christ's body lay after the crucifixion. In the fifth chapter of the book of Ephesians verse 2, Paul speaks of Jesus as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. If you look to the top of this painting, you may make out a nose and mouth, these belong to God fulfilling this verse. It was a vision. The red at the feet of Jesus symbolises the blood He shed for us. The blood that holds the power to forgive us our sins.
