A TOUCH OF Cu2CO3(OH)2 Pigments, Malachite, ink, copperleaf and acrylic on Wood 60×40 cm I love the bright green color of malachite. This rather expensive pigment is one of the oldest known pigments in ancient Egypt used for eye-paint. Malachite owes its color because it includes copper. The combination between copperleaf and Malachite turns out nicely.

Iris van Zanten (1971) graduated in 1996 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Amsterdam and gets her Master, History of Art at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Inspired by Bible stories and Romanesque art she is looking for new Images telling a certain story. Are you afraid of colour? She is working with pigments and water. For giving the pigments a ‘hold’ she prepared the surfaces with sand, boneglue and Van Dycke Brown. This technique gives a softness to the painting and of course a bright color.
