About The Artwork

In my captivating painting, "A Little Shy, and Sad of Eye," I have created a thought-provoking abstract landscape that metaphorically represents the growing disconnect between humanity and the natural world. Inspired by the profound impact of industrialization on our environment, the artwork invites you to reflect on the consequences of our relentless pursuit of progress. The dominant colors of blue, white, and gray set a melancholic tone, evoking in me a sense of desolation and longing. The shades of blue symbolize the fading essence of nature, slowly receding into the background, overshadowed by the encroaching influence of industry. The cool hues also convey a feeling of isolation, underscoring my own detachment. Prominently featured within the composition is a vivid green line, symbolizing the sprawling reach of human-made industrialization. This line cuts through the canvas, dividing the scene into two distinct halves—an abstract representation of the growing divide between humanity and the natural world. It serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact our industrial activities have on the environment. Foregrounded against this backdrop are white human-shaped stencils, their forms interrupted by lines. These stencils represent humanity itself, including me, trapped and constrained within the confines of the industrial world. The lines running across them suggest entrapment, visually portraying how we have become ensnared within the machinery and systems of modernization, losing touch with the beauty and serenity of nature. Through "A Little Shy, and Sad of Eye," I hope to compel you to ponder the consequences of our actions and to consider the urgency of reconnecting with the natural world. Through its abstract imagery and powerful symbolism, the painting serves as a poignant reminder of the fragile relationship between humanity and the environment, urging us all to rediscover our harmony with nature before it fades further into the distance.

Like Charlie Chaplin's 'Modern Times'... An unconditional workforce from the Industrial Revolution to the present. The disconnection between industry and people, the break between people and nature, and the destruction of both by industry. An unquestioned authority and lives revolving around like lab rats. In my works, isolated individuals and a vanishing world dominate. Unfortunately, the world I oppose in my works is also the world I exist in; it reflects my anxieties, my unhappiness, my loneliness and the emptiness I receive in return for unlimited effort. There is a resonance with Spinoza's concept of Conatus, with the discovery of isolated individuals, the disappearance of the world, and the emptiness of constant work. Just as Spinoza suggests that there is an inner existence and striving for well-being in all beings, the disconnection and dehumanization depicted in the work echoes the consequences of a world driven only by industrial forces. The struggle for existence at the individual and collective level is integrated in the web of social structures and power dynamics. My work highlights the need to reflect on the impact of this disconnection on the human psyche and to regain and nurture a fundamental drive for connection, well-being, and harmony with nature.
