PAIS MARAVILLA is my most recent series in which I try to synthesize each aspect that makes up Mexico, choosing specific concepts that speak of my experience as a creative, the meaning they have in my life and the role they have had in my work as an artist. As in all my projects, I dedicate years of research, however this is the result of my own experience, so it took only two years to shape it, however I consider that due to the extensiveness of the subject, it will take me perhaps other two years to finish executing all the pieces that make up the complete series. This is a very personal and intimate project because I touch the roots, the light and the darkness of what it means to be Mexican, and it precisely makes the Wonder Country my most ambitious artistic project, because as never I get involved in a catharsis process more intense than never experienced, I try to encompass one of the widest cultural ranges of the human race, and synthesize it within an aesthetic framework that encompasses "painting, sculpture, installation, object and extended sculpture." Each subject, each object, each painting has to do with my own experience of Mexico; of its smells, its flavors, its colors, its emotions, its shapes, its sounds, its climates and above all, its people. The alebrije is a type of handicraft native to Oaxaca, also called Nahuatkzosquit. Alebrijes are imaginary beings made up of physiognomic elements of different animals, a combination of several animals, not only fantastic but also real that form an amazing being. My alebrijes are pieces made of different geometric figures that I usually apply in my work such as circles, repetitive lines and patterns and the use of superimposed and distorted geometric figures to achieve the effect of hyper dimensionality, also I return to the color palette normally used in indigenous art and they are a metaphoric representation of the actual Alebrijes. This particular ALEBRIJE I applied a multi monochromatic palette and it is an abstraction taken from the original made on canvas. ALEBRIJE No.8b original painting on MDF and wood circular panel of 168 cmø x 5 cm and is ready to hang. Note: The colors in the images shown may vary depending on the resolution of the screen of the device from which they are viewed.

My approach to the arts began at the age of six with the study of piano and fine arts. As a teenager I got involved in theater and in that context I discovered scenography and stage production which ended up shaping the worldview of my “artist self.” I studied architecture and for a short time I worked as a set designer and later I found my passion for cultural management, an area in which I discovered my vocation as an administrator, maker, creator, executor, and organizer, which would ultimately serve as a foundation for structuring my career as artist. After years of resistance I returned to the plastic arts and immersed myself in the study of the popular arts of Mexico as well as the analysis of the uses and customs of various indigenous peoples, focusing my interest on the visual aesthetics of their crafts, clothing, as well as its spiritual worldview and its symbolism at the same time that my passion for modern architecture and industrial, textile, furniture and automotive design gave life to a peculiar way of seeing art. My work is the reflection of all the above, it is the encounter of possibilities, the consequence of my desire to amalgamate concepts and styles that are often antagonistic to each other and of my interest in everything that does not have to be explained but rather felt, it is the encounter of the indigenous with the modern, the ancestral and the present, the abstract imagination with spatial formality, they are the celebration of my own meaning of being myself.
