About The Artwork
This piece is inspired by Paul Gauguin's painting, The Spirit of the Dead Watching. First, I photographed myself with my dog and then painted over the print in acrylic. While, Gauguin's painting incorporated terror, and a double entendre of who's watching who, I created this image without a fear-intended theme. Instead, the dog is the all knowing, the omnipresent, the protector. Furthermore, I chose to paint over the photograph to play with the idea of reality versus non-reality.

She utilizes all types of media such as video, installation, and photography. Her work explores re-establishing contact with the primal, the past, and the authentic. This is manifested primarily through the animal, as well as the examination of language and communication. June currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
