About The Artwork

A small series inspired by the classic Nintendo game “1942”, where the artist has empowered the planes and traffic lights in this series as the protectors of himself and his friends against disturbing world and local events at the time. In the original game, the player controlled an airplane that flew around destroying various other planes and buildings, as this was a war theme game. Vito’s plane in this series is designed to protect him and people he cares about from bad people, places and things within his life that bring him anxiety and frustration; things he cannot really do anything about, but that by creating this alternative world (he calls it Vito’s world), he can maybe control the outcome in his mind’s eye, so that the day to day is more manageable. Vito hopes the viewer will be prompted to think back to a time when the hardest decision to make any day was which toy to play with.

Vito Bonanno is a CT/New York based internationally collected artist, who brings his mix of hyper-focused autism inspired aesthetic, blending street art, pop culture and dreams from his unfiltered world to come alive on the canvas. Bonanno taps into the daily emotional and social challenges of living with autism, which fuels this hybrid dream-state aesthetic, where conceptual and abstract-expressionism styles collide to form enchanting and powerful results. Image and concept driven and embedded in his personal philosophy, his art contains the essence of his life, feelings, thoughts, fears and dreams, coupled around objects or topics that "get stuck in his head", including traffic lights, graffiti, ceiling fans, pop culture, buildings, people-real and imagined, and current world events. Creating art is his therapy, love, release and emotional rescue.
