This painting depicts the artist's niece with her mother. The little girl's name is Alice, and she's in her dreams, so the title was immediately obvious! Barbara's aim was to paint a gentle, tender scene, without being overly sentimental, keeping her brushstrokes dynamic and her gestures lively.
