About The Artwork

“The American Dream” My work continues as I highlight and explore the connection between clothing, pattern and cultural identity. This latest projects process took me to Watts, CA to engage in a story not uncommon in the Latinx community. Here we have the quintessential home with a white picket fence. Often times our families will work extremely hard and sacrifice everything to make it to the US to have a life like this. But this isn’t an ordinary neighborhood home. Often times our barrios are filled with violence and poverty, our family members are lost to senseless shootings or the prison system. All which leads me to question what is the American Dream... The dress used was purchased in Oaxaca, Mexico and was the perfect link that ties this story together.

Eric Mancha is a multidimensional Contemporary Artist and Painter with cross-cultural creations blending American and Chicano traditions, culture, fashion and entertainment across the world. Mancha’s artistic roots come from his rich Mexican-American heritage. As first generation born in America he learned at a very early age the value of hard work in the mostly working class city of Eagle Pass, Texas - a small border town located one mile away from Piedras Negras, Mexico and bordering a Native American reservation. His early interest in drawing led his mother to enroll him in oil paintings lessons, largely consisting of traditional landscapes and classical figurative styles. In 2003 Mancha moved from Texas to Los Angeles after graduating from high school in the Dallas Fort Worth area and studied at Gnomon School of Visual Design where he received his professional certification in visual effects to launch his film career. The use of color and composition to tell stories through the medium of visual effects eventually inspired Mancha to reapproach his original vision of painting as his list of credits grew. The passion for artistic excellence is clear and constant in Mancha’s work, “I love the art of storytelling; color and how it is used to express emotion and space”. Inspired by the Los Angeles landscape, he revived his love for painting and embraced the influence of culture, architecture and color in the neighborhoods most parallel to his upbringing. Heavily influenced by the New York School of abstraction, Mancha was inspired to revert back to his schooling in landscape painting to deconstruct those neighborhoods through an abstract interpretation. His focused collection of work is his vision of West Coast Abstraction.
