Close up
On a mild evening I made my way to a honey suckle I had seen earlier in the day with the hope of seeing the illusive dormouse. I had spotted the nest tangled in the grasps of the honeysuckle, itself beautiful with its striking purple and white flowers sprigged with yellow stamens. I waited patiently as the evening closed in and all that was left, was the last light casting a deep blue glow all around . I was giving up hope as light was fading, when a small nose and large black button like eyes poked its ways out of the nest. Slowly and cautiously it emerged and clambered up the honeysuckle, it paused looking in my direction and carried on its way to find its delights of the night. I felt truly honored and wish to share the moment within this piece of art, in the hope that we will do more to preserve and protect dormice habitats. A number of techniques were used to create the piece including fabric painting, embroidery, quilting and three dimensional textiles techniques.

This piece has been professionally framed, with a white mount and white wood grain box frame, with clear glass. It is ready to hang.

It measures: Height: 33.5cm, Width: 24.5cm, Depth: 2.5cm, in its frame it measures: Height: 41cm, Width: 32cm, Depth: 3cm.

As a keen artist you will often find me wondering the British countryside, overseeing with a keen eye mother nature at her finest, snapping and sketching the characteristics of all kinds of creatures. From the smallest insect hiding in the warmth of the long grass to the vast landscapes that cover the horizon. I ask why look anywhere else when such beauty is to been seen? I use a wide range of techniques to create three dimensional textiles that capture aspects of nature that I have found beautiful. This beauty I find serves as a reminder of the importance of the natural world, and how we should endeavour to preserve it, this idea has particular importance in society today.
